Floor sanding is the process of removing the top surfaces of a wooden floor by sanding with abrasive materials.

A variety of floor materials can be sanded, including timber, cork, particleboard, and sometimes parquet. Some floors are laid and designed for sanding. Many old floors are sanded after the previous coverings are removed and suitable wood is found hidden beneath. Some floor repairs may be necessary in case there’s damage due to excessive moisture or wear and tear. The possibility exists that a thinner, cracked board or a loose parquet block may need to be re-fitted or entirely replaced. Floor sanding usually involves three stages: Preparation, sanding, and coating with a protective sealant.

The process consists of using floor staining agents on small areas of the floor, before the final sanding, to let the clients see how it will look afterwards. The area is then sanded anew, eliminating any chance of residual colouring, then stained with the chosen agent, and then it gets sealed with a sealant.
